I am a professor and a glaciologist. I have spent the last 42 summers working in the field on glaciers in Alaska and Washington with the Juneau Icefield Research Program and the North Cascade Glacier Climate Project .I have been a professor at Nichols College since 1989. I am the United States representative to the World Glacier Monitoring Service, which collects all mass balance and terminus change data for glaciers. Since 2009 I am a contributing author to the BAMS State of the Climate Report each year, writing the section on alpine glaciers. I am on the science advisory board for NASA Earth Observatory. This website examines response of glacier’s due to climate change one glacier at a time.

I’ve appreciated following this blog for some time. It’s informative to see the drastic changes that are happening for glaciers around the world. I don’t know if you take requests, but I live in Sitka, Alaska on Baranof Island, and I know there are several glaciers on the island. I’ve looked into changes a bit with the old topo maps, various aerial photos, and more recent satellite photos. I also know one glacier was the subject of a student project using landsat imagery, but I would be interested in what you had to say about some of the glaciers here if you get a chance. Thanks for your work!

Thank you for this information. I live and work in Wind River country and am alarmed at the impacts of climate change on our glaciers and the potential local impacts that we could witness.

I am planning for ice core drilling on Drang Drung Glacier of Zanskar Valley. Could you please suggest me if it is feasible or not? If it is, then which month will be best and at what elevation should I look for the same.
